Michael Stephen
Yamrick
December 19, 1948 – May 28, 2024
Michael S. Yamrick, 75, of Boynton Beach passed away on May 28, 2024, knowing he was loved deeply.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary {Szczechowicz}, sisters, Mary Leadingham, Helen Welch, Jeanie Hottenstein, Alice Yamrick, and brothers: John Yamrick, Joseph Yamrick, and Jackie Yamrick. He is survived by his loving family: daughter Emmalyn (NYC), son Andrew and his wife Ligaya (San Diego), brother Frank and his love Pat, four generations of nieces and nephews, several cousins, his 101-year-old Aunt Jane, his newest partner in crime Madeline Russo, and many, many friends.
Mike grew up in a large family in Wyoming, PA. He joined the US Navy after college, and eventually started a 35-year career with IBM. He was an active member of Mensa and Intertel, using those connections to make friends when he was transferred around the country with the Navy or IBM.
Coming from a large family with many aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, nieces, and nephews, family was at the heart of Mike. He loved family gatherings, especially when there was a lot of delicious Polish food. Most vacations centered around visiting family all over the country, but he did love exploring the world and enjoyed his travels to Egypt, China, Thailand, Peru, Bolivia, and most of all Paris. He was proud of visiting all 50 states and had begun working on the National Parks.
Mike embodied love and had a passion for life and people. He lit up every room with his contagious laugh and the smile that was always on his face. He was usually ready with a prank or joke, was the life of most parties, would chat with strangers, make friends easily, and was a Renaissance man of the modern age. He loved Hawaiian shirts, off-beat art, classic rock, and opera. Mike was brilliant and had a desire to share his knowledge with others, while continually wanting to learn more. His goal was to always expand his horizons- and that he did…with gusto.
He loved food and how it brought people together. Reading cookbooks was a passion and usually resulted in amazing meals and dinner parties. He published his cookbook MikeY Likes It, and it was filled with favorite recipes from childhood and others he perfected over the years. While he enjoyed eating at high end restaurants, he was a connoisseur of hamburgers, hot dogs (with hot dog sauce), and pizza- his favorites being very thin crust (a la Tappo in NYC) and his beloved Old Forge style.
Mike was always curious and creative. He had many hobbies that those around him benefitted from: stained glass, cake decorating, stamping/embossing, weaving (on looms), glass fusion, orchids, and winemaking. He had a lifelong love affair with NYC- the vibrancy of the city energized him, and he often returned for the Broadway shows, operas, museums, and variety of restaurants.
In lieu of flowers, he would love nothing more than for those he loved to hold up a cosmo, margarita, or a glass of HIS Pinot Noir, and toast this amazing life. "Na zdrowie!"
