Obituary

Beloved mother and grandmother, Moreva Chalaire Griek, peacefully passed away on August 27, 2024, with her family by her side.

She was born at Doctors Hospital in New York City, to Walter Chalaire and Eva Eitingon Chalaire.

Moreva attended Wheelock College where she received her degree in teaching and taught elementary school until she married in 1961.

She was the heart of our family, a Christian, who always made sure we got to church on Sunday morning.  She has 2 children, Amanda Griek Thomas and Christopher Robert Griek and was married to her soulmate, Robert William Griek for 63 years, who passed away last August, 2023.

Moreva is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Chalaire and Eva Eitingon Chalaire; husband, Robert William Griek; siblings, Walter "Buddy" Chalaire, Robert Chalaire and James Chalaire.

She is survived by her sister, Jaqueline Simon; her children, Amanda Griek Thomas and Christopher Robert Griek and her grandchildren.

Lovingly known as "Mimi" to 5 grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Savanna Griek, Luke Griek, Kaitlyn Griek, Kylie Thomas and Payton Griek, who will never forget the love she brought to their lives and the many great memories they will hold on to for a lifetime.

Moreva was passionate about giving to those in need, she donated regularly to charities and volunteered her time for over 20 years at Crisis Line of Palm Beach County at night.  She loved what she did and was given many awards for her service!

In 1972, the family moved to Boca Raton to run the family fish market, Delray Seafoods, together.  She ran a tight ship and knew what everyone was doing at all times.  Delray Seafoods was in business for 48 years until they retired in 2008.

They bought property in Cashiers, NC in the early 80's and built their vacation home on 23 acres.  They would spend summers up in Cashiers/Highlands, NC for many many years.  They also opened a restaurant in the next town called Highlands Seafood and Smokehouse.  The restaurant, although not owned by the family anymore, is still in business today.
