Morgan Niles
Russell
January 9, 1946 – August 14, 2025
Morgan Niles Russell, a force to be reckoned with, passed peacefully on August 14, 2025, in Trustbridge Hospice.
Morgan was born to Frank M (Scoop) Russell and Marian Phebe Gale Russell on January 9, 1946, in Washington, D.C. His sibling, Gale Russell Nash, preceded Morgan in death.
Morgan leaves behind the love of his life, Brenda Keith Russell (wife), his twins Vivienne Russell and Wyatt Russell, his stepsons, Matt Keith (Baton Rouge, LA), Mike & Natalie Keith (Hobe Sound, FL), and Andrew Keith & Lauren (Niceville, FL), grandchildren, Blakely, Noah, Nori, Bryson, Braelyn, Zack, and Zoey Keith. Nephews Matt Russell Holberton (New York, NY), Ted Russell Nash (Denver, CO), and niece Lexi Holberton Wight (Concord, MA).
At 65, Morgan accomplished many of his goals personally and professionally, and now desired to have children; he, along with their mother, introduced Vivienne and Wyatt into this world. A few years later, Morgan sought companionship and someone to spend the rest of his life with, and Brenda, desiring the same, was asked out on a first date. Morgan shared many memories,
and the fact that he had two children, Brenda asked, "What university do they go to?" He responded, they're in 'Pre K 3" Brenda was blown away and flew back to Baton Rouge. Saying to herself, "I did not feel we would be a match because I was too old to help raise little ones." With some coaxing, Cindy (the kids' nanny) persuaded Brenda to return to Delray Beach, and she was so glad she returned to Delray. Morgan enjoyed his time with the twins, teaching them to swim, play ball, ride bikes, ski, etc. Brenda (their stepmom) & Morgan enjoyed taking them to church as the two families blended as one.
Morgan's passions and pursuits were many. He loved the "Village by the Sea", Delray Beach. He was such a massive part of developing parts of Pineapple Grove. He first purchased a shopping center on the corner of Linton Blvd and Federal Blvd. His true passion would be developing 2nd Avenue, which eventually became Pineapple Grove. As a visionary, he knocked on the door located at 172 NE 2nd Avenue, which a local attorney owned. The attorney thought he was nuts for buying and moving into the apartment above the rental units below. He added to the apartment, and it would eventually become the twins' home. His next purchase was a shopping center located on 2nd Avenue. Morgan, in partnership with Scott Porten, created "City Walk." Disillusioned with Delray, Morgan realized it was no longer the Village by the Sea. He sold all his holdings in Delray and bought a shopping center in Tequesta. Then, Morgan decided it was time to retire and enjoy life, and sold his final center. Sadly, his health was failing, and he could not fully enjoy his retirement.
Morgan had many lifetime friends. He helped many of his tenants by listening to their needs. He would tell them, "If you don't succeed, he doesn't succeed." He became close with Christina from Christina's Restaurant, Suzanne from Brulee, Joseph from Joseph's Restaurant, Tony from Lanzetta's, and many more tenants. Many others supported him: Dwight Tidwell, Pete Bonitatibus, Mike Simon, Chris Burr, Richard Heinl, Therese, Betty, Sharon, Luanne, James, Ellen, his loving caregiver, and so many more.
Morgan's DC friends told me Morgan was a hard nut to crack, but "I was able to crack that nut!" Morgan, being a giving man, helped so many people. His self-funded charity, Dare2BGreat, put 40 students through college. He helped many of his employees. Morgan had a great sense of humor, which he kept until his last breath. His love for his twins and his blended family was undeniable.
Tribute from the Andrew Keith family: There are many things that our family has learned from Morgan; the main life lessons that he taught us will carry through the rest of our lives. We learned never to take life too seriously and to always let the positive come first, and life is too short to dwell on the things that we can't control, but to embrace the beauty of life with friends and family. Lastly, we learned that God and family are the only thing that matters in the end to live every day as though it is our last.
Tribute from the Matt Keith family: The first thing about Morgan that comes to mind is the fact that I loved Morgan from our first encounter. He immediately considered me and my brothers as his own family and treated us as such. He was selfless and always put others first. He had a great sense of humor and kept the entire room laughing out loud. He loved to talk about lessons he learned in life, and I find myself using his quotes often. I know I'm taking this time to talk about him and the great "one man band" he was, but I also want to speak directly to Morgan about the woman who was by his side until his last breath. Your wife was the true definition of "through sickness and health". She reciprocated the same unconditional love that you had shown for her. As your mental and physical functions started to decline, she never left your side. When you needed her most, she stayed.
Tribute from Mike Keith's family: Pop's (Morgan) was not only a partner, father-in-law, and friend to us here on earth—he was a gift from God. The Lord gave us Morgan as a business mentor and a lifelong family member who filled our hearts with laughter, joy, and love. He was humble, generous, and always put the needs of others above his own. Morgan's life has forever changed our course, and in his honor—and through Jesus our Savior—we commit to carrying forward the hope and love he modeled so well. His legacy of faith, kindness, and selflessness will live on in all who knew him and those who need to know God in him!
His life will be celebrated from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at Rose's Daughter, located at 169 NE 2nd Avenue, Delray Beach. Parking at the Old School Square at 94 NE 1st Avenue is recommended. This is a time for family, friends, and the community to come together in remembrance. Stories will be shared, tears and laughter will mingle, and the impact of their life will be celebrated in full.
I am not saying farewell. I am saying, until we meet again. Every day after our visits, I would say, "See you later, alligator!" He would reply, "After a while, crocodile!" Love you, Morgan.
