Natalie Schippmann
Shourd Weikel
April 12, 1935 – March 6, 2021
Natalie Schippmann Shourd Weikel passed away on March 6, 2021 in Boynton Beach, Florida. She was born in Oak Park, Illinois on April 12, 1935, daughter of the late Edward and Crystal (Severin) Schippmann. Her family moved to Petite Lake while she was in elementary school and she graduated from Antioch High School in 1952.
She married Walter R. Shourd in 1956. They met in California a year earlier on a blind date, set up by her brother, who was a fellow officer with Walter in the United States Navy. They had five children, which she would always say was her greatest accomplishment. Over the next 30 years, Walter's work in the heavy construction industry moved them to Illinois, Ireland, Connecticut, Missouri, Alaska, Texas and Florida. Natalie was a devoted mother who always loved, supported and cared for her family. In 1988, Natalie married Texas native David E. Weikel. They enjoyed country music and the outdoors. She loved her time in the small, Texas town where she helped raise cattle. In 2006, Natalie moved to Florida.
Natalie was a homemaker - the greatest of its kind - who ironed the bed sheets, made three homemade meals a day and kept a welcoming home. For her family, she volunteered for numerous school events, scouting troops and church activities. She liked to read, collect antiques and was an amazing baker (German chocolate and pound cake were her specialties). Taking care of people is what Natalie did best. Through the years, she volunteered at various hospitals and when her children were older she worked as a Nursing Assistant for over 10 years at Tomball Community Hospital. She was a mom to everyone who knew her. Natalie was no stranger to hard work. She liked working outside whether it was mowing the lawn, cleaning the pool or shovelling snow. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and an active member of the Republican party.
Natalie is predeceased by husband Walter R. Shourd, and David E. Weikel and sister Patricia Harvey.
She is survived by her sons Thomas (Bonnie) Shourd, Stephen Shourd, David Shourd, daughters Susan Shourd and Julie (James) Cernock, grandchildren David (Amanda) Shourd, Sarah Heater, Julia Heater, Ana Marie Cernock, Joseph Cernock, great grandchildren Juliet and Colton, and her brother Edward Schippmann.
Whenever you hear Natalie's favorite old hymn, The Old Rugged Cross , think of her, and know she is smiling down on you... forever taking care of you.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 97, Westhoff, TX 77994 or to the Alzheimer's Association.
