Dr. Nenad Spoljaric 87, passed away peacefully on April 20th 2022, at home in Boca Raton Florida surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 3rd 1934 in Zagreb, Croatia. In 1963 he immigrated to the USA to marry his high school sweetheart Barbara Simunovic.

Doctor Spoljaric graduated from Karlovac high school (gimnazija) in Croatia in 1953 and received his BS degree in geology from the University of Ljubljana in1957. For several years he worked at the Petroleum Institute in Zagreb. Upon arrival to the United States he earned his masters degree from Harvard University and PhD in geology from Bryn Mawr University.

He worked at the University of Delaware as a senior research scientist and professor for 35 years. Nenad was highly respected by his colleagues and the scientific community for his research and contributions to the field of geology.

He was a published author and received many awards for his work and research.

Neno, short for Nenad, was a wonderful person, great loving husband, father and grandfather, so kind, so gentle and so warm. He put the needs of others above his own.

Nenad is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 58 years, high school sweetheart and love of his life, his beloved son Raymond Eugene Spoljaric, his loving daughter-in-law Kelley and his 3 adoring grandchildren Chase, Madison and Tyler. He is also survived by his sister Vesna Radulovic and nephews Krsto and Zarko in Serbia, sisters-in-law Anne Geotz, Helen Simunovic, Joyce Simunivic, niece Kathy (Jim) Egan, and nephews Charles (Cindy) Goetz, Michael Simunovic, Robert (Lordes) Simunovic, Joe (Bridget) Simunovic, Steven (Patty) Simunovic, Mark (Christina) Simunovic and niece Nancy Simunovic.

He is also survived by many grand nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends in the USA and abroad and his dear gimnazija colleagues in Croatia and a special friend Joza Ball in Sweden.

Nenad was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Zlata Špoljarić in Croatia.

The memorial mass will be held on May 12th, 2022 at Saint Vincent Ferrer Church, 840 George Bush Boulevard, Delray Beach, Florida 33483. The burial will be private.
