Nino
Canu
November 30, 1928 – July 30, 2019
Nino Canu (AKA Secondo Nino Canu), 90, passed away on July 30, 2019. Born in Gardner, Massachusetts, he was a football player and 1947 graduate of Gardner High School (go Wildcats). Mr Canu moved to Miami Beach Florida and made his living as a waiter and then Maitre D' at hotels in Miami Beach FL and Longbranch, NJ.
He is survived by his beloved wife Bernadette (Cosentino) Canu and his 5 cherished children; Secondo Nino (Lori) Canu Jr; Nina (Frank) Seltzer; Rosemarie (Kevin) McKenzie; Christine (Stanley) Bielak and Suzanne (Walter) Mazur along with 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and numerous neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mimi and Sabina (Buffo) Canu whose names are engraved on the wall at Ellis Island, NY; his brothers Mimi (Nancy) Canu and Bartolo Canu; and sister Angela (Earl) Cormier.
He was very proud of his Italian heritage and the sounds of Frank Sinatra, Pavarotti and other Italian singers could be heard at home, unless there was a Miami Dolphins football game on TV! And just like the Sinatra song says, he did it his way. He was known for his quick wit and the ease in which he could make people smile.
The family would like to thank Trustbridge Hospice Foundation for their support and care for the past 15 months, with a special thank you to his RN Thomas Clegg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Nino's memory to Trustbridge at 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 or Click Here to Donate Online
Per his request, there are no calling hours and a private service will be held at Lorne and Sons Funeral Home, Delray Beach, FL
