Obituary

Paul Victor Elmstrom, 83, of Delray Beach and formerly of West Islip, NY, passed away in his home on March 12 th , 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Theresa "Terry" Elmstrom, and his two daughters Kathryn Monaco (Lou), and Emily Gargano (Steven). His dear son Peter Alyward Elmstrom predeceases him. He was adored by his six grandchildren; Charles and Julia Monaco, Steven Paul, Jake, Patrick, and John Gargano, his great grandchild Charles Robert Monaco, and his loving dog Oreo. He is also survived by his sister in law Trudy and nephew Jake (Nannette), and predeceased by his brother Harry Elmstrom. He had many adoring friends over his lifetime, and held a special bond with his oldest and dearest friends, Henry Kartagener, Jeff Lehman and David Conklin.

Paul was born to Harry and Loretta Elmstrom, on August 27 th , 1938, in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in Nassau County, Long Island, NY with his brother Harry and Uncle Artie and Aunt Lillian close by. Before graduating high school, he enlisted in the army, and served with the 62 nd Military Police Co. [Highway Patrol], Det. C. Always a strong believer in higher education, he eventually obtained his GED and Bachelors. He met his wife Terry while she was working as a nurse in New York City in September 1963, and they married two months later on December 7th. He spent the majority of his married life on Long Island, NY, living in Baldwin, Freeport, and finally residing in West Islip, where he enjoyed living on the water and sailing his sailboat with family and friends on the Great South Bay. He had a long successful career in the airlines and ran his own international travel company that provided continuing education trips for multiple professionals, which included; nurses, doctors, lawyers and veterinarians. With international travel being his profession, he was able to see many parts of the world, and never missed an opportunity to have his wife and children accompany him on his many business trips. After his retirement in 2012, he relocated to Delray, to live out his retired years with Terry by his side. They enjoyed all Delray had to offer, and made many friends in their close-knit community of High Point. Paul loved to go out to dinner and socialize with his wife, and many friends, and looked forward to breakfast every Sunday at Christina's in Delray. However his favorite place to dine was in his backyard with his wife, glass of wine, and dog Oreo by his side.

Paul will be remembered for his generosity and loyalty to all his beloved family and friends. He was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need, and had a low tolerance for anyone who was not being treated fairly. Paul was interested in all persons well being, and was a true support to anyone who was seeking help or guidance. He was known to be the "mayor" wherever he was living, and was always found interacting and waving hello to others in his community, and if anyone was encountering a problem, he was always available to help find a solution. Paul thrived on routine and while managing his travel company in Babylon, he could be found every weekday morning, at the same time, having breakfast at Glenn's Dinette. An invitation was always open for his family, most notably his children and grandchildren, to come and sit at the counter at one of his favorite locations. He was an inspiration to everyone he met, and his spirit will forever live on, and never will be forgotten.
