Perry
Miller
September 8, 1928 – July 19, 2021
On the 8th of September 1928 in Lynn, MA a beautiful miracle occurred. A son was born to Harry & Lena Miller. They named him Perry. Perry was an only child who felt a great responsibility toward his parents.
After graduating high school, he chose to attend Salem State College so he could be at home. However, after 2 years he transferred to Boston College in Boston, MA. He continued to commute. He received his Bachelors degree in Education and continued to purse his Master Degree when the Korean War broke out. Knowing he would be gone into the service he joined the Air Force. He was allowed to complete his Master's Degree in Psychology.
And so began his training in officer cadidate school in Texas. About 6 months after graduating from OCS he was sent to Japan. He served his time between Korea and Japan.
Upon returning to civilian life he taught elementary school for 1 year. Perry was offered a position at Boston State College, accepted that and began his doctoral program at Boston University. He received his doctorate while continuing to teach. After awhile he joined the facility at University of Massachusetts, teaching psychology in the Education Department. In all Perry earned 4 doctorates.
Until 1985, Perry lived a quiet life. However that year life changed Perry's life forever! Riding in an elevator with his cousin Roberta Miller to visit her parents in their apartment he was introduced to the manager of the apartment building. Her name was Reta. After dating for 4 years because Perry said, "What's the rush?" On the 9th of July, 1989 they married. Perry's life took on a whole new meaning. He not only acquired the "in-laws" Anne & Harry Weisman but Reta's 3 sons and their families; William & Brenda with Nicky & Brianna Newman; Andy & Pam with Hannah & Connor Newman; Donald & Melisa Newman, he was a brother-in-law to Pam & Robert Olson and the late William Weisman, Uncle to Justin & Leah, Matthew, Robert, Bianca, Josh and Great Uncle to Ada.
For the next 32 years, the couple were inseparable from Grocery shopping to traveling. During this time, Perry also found out his great-great grandfather had the title Lord bestowed upon him which Perry acquired. In time Perry and Reta moved to Florida where they lived for 20 years. He volunteered in the Delray Beach Police Department, Sheriff Department and as a criminal investigator.
Perry was a licensed psychologist in Massachusetts, a member of the American Orthopsychriatric Association, a member of the Fali, the founding member of the Royal Society of St. George, a founding member of the America Air Museum in Britain, a member of the Commonwealth Club to name a few. Among his awards is the Korean War Commemorative Service Award.
Sadly on the 19th of July, 2021, the man who was a gentleman in all sense of the word a Mensch. A man who gave anyone who needed it help, never raised his voice, had so much wisdom, patience and compassion passed away. For all that knew him or met him or whose life he touched knew what an extraordinary special person he was.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021, 12:30PM at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 State Road 7/441, Lake Worth, FL Lane 1. Memorial week will be observed at his home.
