Peter F.
Gregory
March 5, 1920 – September 22, 2018
Our dearest dad, Peter F. Gregory, our hero, our rock and our heart passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Peter's parents were Serafina and Francesco. His mother was born in Italy and passed away at age 100. He had one loving sister, Mary Marchesi, who passed away at age 97.
As a young boy, Peter worked with his father in their electrical appliance business. There he learned the value of a dollar and his strong work ethic. Growing up, Peter played softball and baseball in several different leagues. He played for many years and really enjoyed it. It was a great memory for him. Peter bravely and proudly served as a sergeant in the United States Army. He received several medals for his service. He was a patriotic veteran who honored his country. He was part of the greatest generation.
Peter was married to the love of his life, Jean Alicia Hogan, for 56 years. They were childhood sweethearts, who married in September, 1943. He was on the football team, and she was a cheerleader. Jean passed away in September of 1999. They had a wonderful and blessed life together. They had 4 children: Francine, Barbara, Steven, and Peter. He leaves behind his endearing grandchildren; Justin, Jonathan, Jillian, and Lauren. He also leaves behind his 2 great-grandchildren, Omar and Camden (who was born on his birthday). He also had a very special bond with his 2 daughter-in-laws, Lorraine and Marlene.
Peter was employed by the NYC Department of Sanitation for over 25 years in the Bronx. After retirement, he worked for several years as a superintendent at Dollar Savings Bank. Eventually, the Gregory's would settle in Delray Beach, Florida in 1982. Peter had many hobbies such as bowling, movies, music, and the racetrack. His favorite hobby was going to garage sales and the flea market. He was proud of always getting "a great deal". He gave up that hobby at age 93.
He was loved and respected by all of his family and friends. He was "The Godfather" of our family. Our father will always be remembered as kind, humble, generous, intelligent, reliable, hardworking, loyal, spiritual, and definitely fun. He was a simple man with a great spirit and a heart of gold. God and family were the most important priorities in his life.
Thank you Dad for sharing almost 99 extraordinary years with us.
Peter F. Gregory made this world a better place for his family, friends, and everyone who crossed his path in life. He will be deeply missed and was truly a "one in a million" father.
Rest in peace, Daddy.
