Reverend Canon Richard A. Smith, 83, of Boynton Beach passed away on August 17, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife Carol of 61 years, children Cheryl (Michael) Berry, Richard W. Smith, Holly (Mark) Robillard, grandchildren Ryan and Amanda Shapiro, Bobby and James Robillard, Erika Brenneman and Randi Berry, great-grandchildren Spencer, Skylar, Taylor, Eli and brother Raymond K. Smith, all of whom will deeply miss him. He will be remembered for his generosity to others, sense of humor, deep faith and love for his family.
Richard was born on March 2, 1932 in Bayport, NY and graduated from Sayville High School. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was employed by John Hancock Insurance Company, and after retirement fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a priest. He founded St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church in Delray Beach where he later served as Assistant Priest. He served many parishes throughout Florida, was Chaplain for the Delray Beach Police Department for 10 years, was a member of the American Legion Post 0164 and the Coast Guard Auxillary.
Friends may visit from 5 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Lorne and Sons Funeral Home, 745 N.E. 6th Avenue, (North Federal Highway) Delray Beach, including a prayer service at 7 PM. Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, August 21, 2015 at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, 101 Homewood Boulevard, Delray Beach.
Father Smith requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church
