Obituary

Rexford Blazer, III, age 22, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday Dec. 16, 2018. He was born August 25, 1996, in Juneau, Alaska, the son of Rexford Blazer Jr and Sheri L Hazeltine. Born with trauma at birth, it did not stop him from having a happy joyous life combined with great love.

Despite his many physical challenges, his radiant smile and dimples and infectious laugh would instantly light up any room and charm all of us. While he could not speak, he was always watching and was very communicative to those who took the time to listen.

Little Rex developed his love of music at the beginning of his life.  His father, Rex, a professional fiddle player, serenaded his son as part of their home life.  Little Rex made many musical friends through his attendance at his father's many gigs at festivals and dances. He was always a welcome addition to the music scene in Juneau, Alaska.

Little Rex moved to Florida with his parents in 2003.  He attended the Potential schools in Riviera Beach and Boca Raton, FL, J.C. Mitchell School in Boca Raton and, most significantly, the Royal Palm School in Lantana, FL.  The family is thankful to his aides and teachers at all of these schools for enriching his life.

In 2009, Little Rex and his mother founded the non-profit organization, Royal DJs, Inc., so that Little Rex and his other special needs friends could share their love of music with the world. The family thanks Korey Soderman for his friendship and for inspiring Little Rex and his mother to start this organization. Little Rex was also able to attend many concerts for free, thanks to Korey's organization, Korey's Krew.

Little Rex became DJ Mr. Worldwide with the non-profit organization, Royal DJs, Inc., along with his special needs friends: Domenick Veglia (DJ Dombomb); Brandon Seacrist (DJ Big B); Katelyn Martin (DJ Koolkatelyn) and Dario; Ross Hutton (DJ Ross); Jay Hutton (DJ Jay); Nick Sills (DJ Beatle); Dinah Ruvolo(DJ Dinah). Little Rex and his friends share their love of music with the world by putting on gigs around South Florida. A special thanks to the parents of the DJs who transported and participated in all of the gigs and special concerts:  Robert and Debra Veglia, Catherine Seacrist and Al Carver, Melody Steele-Martin, Gary and Amy Hutton, Amy Burch, Chip Ruvolo and Wendy Russum.

Little Rex's parents made sure that he attended numerous concerts. He was very fortunate to personally meet many famous musicians, performers and celebrities - each of whom were so kind to Little Rex.  Special thanks to: Tito Puenté Jr; Keith Urban; Members of KISS (Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons); Ozzie Osbourne, Little River Band (Wayne and Rhonda Nelson, Chris Marion, Rich Herring, Ryan Ricks); Rascal Flatts; Macklemore; Vanilla Ice (Robert Van Winkle); The Wiggles; Bebe Rexa; Hailey Steinfeld; American Idol Winner Kris Allen; The Chainsmokers; The Goo-Goo Dolls; Kool and the Gang; The Wailers; Boston; Arlo Guthrie; Backstreet Boys; Chicago; Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (John McEuen); Dustin Lynch; Drummer Tico Torres of Bon Jovi; Natalie LaRose; DJ Barry Goldwater III; DJ Khaled; Ariel Tojo; Governor Rick Scott; Tiffany Kenney and Todd McDermott from Channel WPBF;  Lulu and Lala, Frankie P. and Ruth B. from Hits 97.3.  A big thank you to Hits 97.3 Miami staff and DJ Laz (Lazaro Mendez) for always graciously including the Royal DJs in their studio sessions for new musicians.

A big highlight of Little Rex's life was meeting his favorite performer, Pitbull (Armando Christian Perez) in person on the Pitbull Cruise 2017 with his mother, Sheri, and grandmother, Shirley. A private meeting was held and a nice speech/ceremony was made by Pitbull in front of everyone on the ship. This helped to fulfill one of Little Rex's biggest wishes.

Little Rex was also a member of Special Compass, an organization that creates life-changing experiences for the differently-abled by promoting inclusion in the community using athletic events.  He participated in many races across South Florida and one in Atlanta. Co-founders Jim Sayih and his son encouraged Little Rex and his mother to participate in these races and it opened up a whole new world of achievement for Little Rex.

For one season, Little Rex participated in the Miracle League of Palm Beach County, a baseball league open to all children regardless of mental or physical abilities.  Thank you to Julia Kadel for including Little Rex in this activity and providing support for him.

Rex loved attending birthday parties and celebrating his own birthday.  Two of his favorite people in the world were Grandma Shirley Hazeltine and Grandpa Earl Hazeltine.  Rex enjoyed his time in Monroe, WI, at Grandma Shirley's.  She would get right down on the floor and talk to him and pretend to be on the phone with one of his favorite cartoon characters, Arthur.  At the farm in Mt. Horeb at Grandpa Earl's, they would have a "guys only" night and he wore his Aaron Rodgers jersey to watch the Green Bay Packers with his dad and grandpa in the "man cave".

In a related football story, Big Rex and little Rex went to see the movie "Avatar" in West Palm Beach and wore their Brett Favre football jerseys.  The President and co-owner of the Minnesota Vikings, Mark Wilf, saw them at the theatre and asked if they would like an autographed photo from Brett (since he was now at the Vikings).  Little Rex and his father were thrilled when the photo and letter arrived one week later.

Christmas was an especially fun time for Little Rex.  His father loves all different types of lights and he decorated the outside of the house with many strings of lights.  Little Rex loved seeing the house lit up when he arrived home.  Inside the house, Rex would sit and admire his Christmas tree, ornaments and lights.  Presents and Santa made him so excited and happy.

His favorite place in the world was Disney World in Orlando.  The family took him there many times during his life.  He loved Goofy first then Mickey, Minnie and many of the Disney princesses.

Each summer, Little Rex would visit his home in Deer Isle, Maine.  In this tiny town, many people knew and loved him. He represented United Cerebral Palsy in their annual 4 th of July parade.

Little Rex loved his kitties.  His favorite was Blondie who laid next to him every night.
