Richard Thomas Maurer, 79, passed away peacefully at home in Boynton Beach, FL on July 13, 2014 with beloved wife of 59 years, Janice Maurer and children by his side. He was born on January 28th, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Louise and Sylvester Maurer. His sister Mary Glaser, and brothers William and Thomas predeceased him. With special memories to cherish, Dick is survived by his wife Jan, and was the loving father to daughters Susan Mann (Bill), Kimberly Ragonnet, and sons Mark (Vicki) and Richard Maurer. He is also survived by grandson Kevin (Molly), great-granddaughter Malina, sister Marlene Cashman, and many nieces and nephews. He was a man of strong character and integrity. Dick enjoyed a long and successful career as a Life Insurance Executive, and served on several Boards of Directors. Dick was an avid sports fan and loved being outdoors in the mountains of North Carolina. After volunteering for 15 years, in 2012 he was named the VIP of the Year in recognition of outstanding volunteer service and commitment to the Blue Ridge Parkway. He also served as a volunteer for 5 years for the VITAS Innovative Hospice Care of Palm Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway, P.O Box 20986, Roanoke, VA 24018, or the Valle Crucis Community Park, P.O. Box 581, Valle Crucis NC 28691.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 18,2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 840 George Bush Blvd, Delray Beach.
