Richard A. "Dick" Roegiers, 82, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside in Boynton Beach on Friday, April 13, 2012.
He was born in Moline, IL, on February 1, 1930, to August and Pauline Roegiers. Both of his parents' families had emigrated from Belgium to the United States.
After serving in the U.S. Army for three years during the Korean War, he met and married his wife, JoAnn, in 1954.
Richard was an only child but ended up with a large family. He is survived by his wife and their children: Steve and his wife, Peggy; Tom and his wife, Nancy; Lisa and her husband, Joe; and Rick and his wife, Susie. He also left behind his grandchildren: Amy and her husband, Danny; Kathryn; Brett; Curtis; Kyle; Jessica; Allyson; Parker; Ashley and Jamee; and his great-granddaughter, Ava.
His job in sales and marketing at IBM brought his family to Boca Raton, FL, where he and his wife lived for 18 years. In 1990, they moved to Delray Dunes Country Club in Boynton Beach.
After 35 years at IBM, Richard retired in 1989 and started his own home renovation business. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and rooting for the Florida Gators.
A devout Catholic, he graduated from Saint Joseph High School in Rock Island, IL, and Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, IA. He was a longtime member of Saint Vincent Ferrer Church in Delray Beach, FL, and was active in the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.
Friends may call on Tuesday, April 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, 745 NE 6th Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33483. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 840 George Bush Blvd., Delray Beach, FL 33483.
