Obituary

Richard Peter Shiskin, Jr., age 63, died Saturday, March 21, 2015, in his home in Delray Beach, Florida after a two year battle with lung cancer. Richard was born in Miami Beach, Florida, to Richard Peter Shiskin, Sr. and Grace (Bowser) Shiskin, both pre-deceased. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War from July 7, 1971 through his honorable discharge on November 11, 1974. He returned to the United States with his beloved four-legged friend, Taku. With his life-long friend, Michael Williams, and Taku, Richard traveled to Alaska for fun and adventure and a goal to work on the Alaskan pipeline. He never did work on the pipeline but secured a job at the Holiday Inn where he met many wonderful friends and Lynn Morton, with whom he spent many years and continued his adventure moving to Orcas Island off of the coast of Washington State. At the end of that journey he returned to South Florida where he met and married Julie Sadoski on September 17, 1982. Of this marriage were born two children, Amy Lynn Shiskin and Ryan Peter Shiskin. They lived in Deerfield Beach, Florida for 25 years. After 25 years of marriage Richard and Julie divorced but remained very close friends through and including the date of his death.

Richard is survived by daughter, Amy Lynn (Shiskin) McJilton, son, Ryan Peter Shiskin, stepmother, Helen Shiskin, sisters Patricia (Shiskin) Walton and Pamela (Shiskin) Jacobs, stepsister, Tina (Shiskin) Garcia; stepbrother, Paul Shiskin; and his lineal descendants and through marriage, nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Jacobs) Loyd, Shannon (Jacobs) Dykhouse, Matthew Walton, Heather (Walton) Hellweg, Danielle (Roberts) Ruszczyck, Jonas Roberts, Erin Roberts, Jonathan Frederick and Timothy Frederick.

Richard was also pre-deceased by his step-brother Mark Shiskin.

The things first and foremost in Richard's life were family and friends. In his younger years he resided on Orcas Island where he was the lead singer in a local 50's rock band. After he became a father his children were the center of his life. He always had a strong passion for music and was always Mr. "Name that tune" in any music competition. Because of his travels and passions he was often the life of the party with many interesting stories to share. For enjoyment he pursued learning to play the guitar through video/cd and jamming with friends. He enjoyed boating and fishing and, in his later years, golf. Always an avid reader, he enjoyed non-fiction experiences and Steven King thrillers. He has always been an animal lover and has left behind his beloved feline friend, Fuzzy, who will live out her years with his daughter, Amy. A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 3:00 p.m. at 2505 Par Circle in Delray Beach, FL.
