Rita A. George passed away peacefully August 6, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, John D. George. She was born in Quebec, Canada the youngest of 14 children on May 21, 1922. She is survived by her daughters, Brooks Junnier (Richard) and Audy Johnston, 4 grandchildren, Richard John Junnier (Amy), Kelly Junnier (Phillip), Gene William Johnston, Jr., and Brandy Christina Strine ( James) as well as 7 great grandchildren.
She worked in retail sales in Delray Beach for many years. She and John had a passion for helping others as evidenced by their work with the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary. Rita served as President of the Milton Myers Post 65 American Legion Auxiliary, as well as State President of the American Legion Auxiliary in 1980-1981. She was also a member of American Legion Post 164 in Boynton Beach for many years. She was an integral part of the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program that teaches young women responsible citizenship and love for God and Country. Her volunteering and giving back to the community afforded her the opportunity to travel throughout the United States raising awareness of helping Veterans and their families. Rita was also a volunteer at Bethesda Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday,August 9, 2016, 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 188 South Swinton Avenue,Delray Beach, Florida.
