Bob Currier, 77, of Delray Beach passed suddenly on December 9, 2016.
Bob's life had many facets, from being a legislative "page boy" in his younger years, to working on portions of America's quest in space, Bob's life was full and bountiful. Born and raised in Vermont, Bob enlisted in the Air Force on graduating St. Johnsbury Academy. After honorably serving his country in Korea, Bob settled in South Florida. Bob married Tina, his wife of 53 years in 1963, starting and successfully raising a family. As a parent, Bob taught his children about humility, hard work, the roles of patience and stick-to-it-iveness, the importance of faith, loyalty, loving each of his kids uniquely for who they were. Bob lead by example, always an unflinching supporter and bearer of peace and the voice of reason within his family.
Bob's faith was extremely important to him. Bob was raised with strong Catholic values, bringing those values to bear during marriage and rearing his children. Following his father's footsteps (a 4th Degree Knight) Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree upon his passing) and attended mass weekly with or without his family. Bob always brought peace with him wherever he was. Bob even had a calming effect on animals which he loved dearly. He and Tina spent many mornings peering out their window wherever the "good Lord" had brought them that day, watching "God's clowns" and the antics that ensued.
Often, Bob would be found helping family, friends and neighbors with whatever project they had going. Bob never met a gadget he did not like, creating the right "tool" for whatever project he or Tina had on deck. Bob was a man constantly learning and teaching, always with a story or a tidbit to share on virtually any topic. Bob was always game to grab anyone or everyone in the family to see an airshow often watching the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds. During time with his children, nieces, nephews, brothers, or friends, Bob listened attentively, laughed freely, and knew how to be present with all who came across his path.
Bob, Tina and family regularly spent summers in Vermont. Most summers were spent working on the summer cottage, tinkering on anything needing repair or attention, teaching his kids to dig for worms, fish, water-ski and enjoy Vermont's treasures as a compliment and break from the "concrete jungle" life in Miami. Bob loved his Maine lobster feasts, especially in Vermont with family and friends gathered around the kitchen table, eating, telling stories, enjoying the moment. Bob found peace in these experiences.
Bob worked in the airline industry for roughly 45 years, retiring from his career in Aeronautical Engineering in 2009. In the last decade of Bob's career, he was lovingly referred to as "mother" by coworkers. Bob seemed always able to offer advice and ferret out solutions to any issue that arose. Lisa often boasted, "from a blow dryer to a DC10, my father could fix it all", and he did, "just leave it on his work bench..." Bob spent his entire life keeping those he knew and millions he never met, safe! Bob loved his work and very humbly told his children stories of working as a contractor for NASA, contributing to space missions through the 60s and early 70s, among them, Genesis and Apollo. Bob was active in the Airlines Retired Employees organizations and regularly attended annual events both before and in retirement. After retiring, Bob and Tina returned to FL and settled in Delray Beach, FL near their daughter Lisa.
Bob is survived his brother Roger and Roger's wife Eugenia and daughters Julie and Deborah… the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Tina, his children Gene of Miami, FL, daughter Lisa of Delray Beach, FL, and son Chris of Black Hawk, CO., grandchildren Savannah, Jordan and Aidan, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
This summer, 2017, Bob's family will hold a Celebration of Life and Internment Ceremony, in Vermont. Details of the celebration to be announced at a later date.
All are welcome to join, share stories, laughs and memories of this very kind, loving and big hearted man, we, his children, called DADDY.
DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL
What did you think the first time they placed your baby girl in your arms.
A part of you. Your creation.
The tiny hands. you would be there to hold.
The tine feet. You would help take their very first steps.
The innocence. you would protect with everything in you.
The helplessness. You would dedicate your time to have her overcome.
The fragility. You would defend with your last breath. If ever threatened.
And the smile you would maintain in her heart. If it was the last thing you did.
You would teach her to be kind.
Even when she didn't want to be.
To be responsible and accept life as it is dealt.
To set goals for herself and to let nothing stand in the way of her achieving them.
You would encourage and love her. So she would never feel alone or worthless.
Well I can't tell you what your little girl was thinking the first time I looked into your eyes.
I can tell you what I have been since the first day I can remember…
My daddy made me promises in the first few moments of my life.
Just like many other daddies do.
Only my daddy is special for one reason…
The promises he made in those few precious moments
He made my life!
I love you with everything that is in me Daddy.
Your little girl,
Lisa Marie
…your wings were ready, our hearts were not…
