A man of great likes and dislikes, a man who knew what he wanted, a man who epitomized the concept of "sweat equity".
During last summer in Maine, he discovered he had a condition that would probably end his life. On Tuesday morning, March 5, he decided he wanted the wait over. So somehow, with God's help, it happened, very quickly and unexpectedly.
In his eyes no long goodbyes or tears were needed, it was now our time to carry on without him.
Bob lost his mother at 3 years of age and was raised in Kearney, NJ by a grandmother who he cherished. Times were difficult for the family and he enlisted in the Navy as soon as he could. The service made him a "man of the world" and just recently he spoke of how lucky he felt being born at just the right time not to have to see the horrors of WWII or Korea. Rather he enjoyed the travel, the friends and of course the many adventures in foreign ports.
He married and had 4 children with his wife Carol and they moved to Wabasso, Florida in the 70's. His skills and expertise at home building and maintenance led to a successful career as a Certified building manager in Highland Beach, Florida. He met and married Ann Merlau and they together accumulated numerous rental properties that made for a comfortable retirement.
In 1999 we took on our final project in Augusta , Maine on Togus Pond. An old abandoned cottage on 4 acres was irresistible and became the our summer home and a continuous labor of love. He never got to see some of the great beauty in Maine, because he so enjoyed working and watching our camp "Oui D'neau" become a creation beyond our expectations.
