Obituary

Robert (Bob) passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 86 years old. He was born in Long Island, NY on September 24, 1936. His Parents were Nicholas and Nellie Van Essendelft Griek. He had two sisters Betty Atherton, his twin and Marilyn Carraretto. He joined the navy in 1953. After 4 years in the service, he was part of a team that figured out how to artificially inseminate oysters, clams and other bi-valves.

In 1960 he moved to Delray Beach with his parents and sisters and opened a retail fish market named Delray Seafoods. In 1961 he married his dream girl Moreva Chalaire. They bought property in Cashiers, NC in the early 80s and built their vacation home on 23 acres. They also opened a restaurant in the next town called Highlands Seafood and Smokehouse, which he ran for many years. The restaurant, although not owned by the family, is still in business today.

Bob and Moreva had two children, Amanda and Christopher. He has 5 grandchildren, Savanna, Luke, Kaitlyn, Kylie and Payton who adored him as "Poppy".

The family ran the fish market together for 48 years until they retired in 2008. He was a fixture in Delray Beach for over 50 years. Bob has always been a Christian man of Faith, he was kind, happy and always helped strangers when they needed it most. Bob was also a great storyteller and could tell a joke like none other. He was a real jokester, as all his customers would know when they went into the Market. He was well known around town with his big smile, bright blue eyes and dark tan and made friends wherever he went.

He is survived by his wonderful wife Moreva, his sister Marilyn, his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 4pm held at Above and Beyond Community Church located at 7500 E Country Club Blvd in Boca Raton, FL 33487.
