Obituary

Robert "Bob" Johnson Hitchens Jr., born in Williamsport, PA and raised in Chinook, MT and Watsontown, PA, passed away on July 2, 2025 at the age of 74. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and a friend to all who knew him.

Bob was a proud graduate of Warrior Run High School, Turbotville, PA, Class of 1968, where he met his beloved wife, Linda. Though life took them on separate paths for a time, they reconnected in 2010, and their love for each other was the light of his life.

He went on to attend Lafayette College, graduating with the Class of 1972 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, an alma mater he shared with his favorite daughter, Jennifer, Lafayette College, Class of 1995. Robert had a deep love of learning and reading, evident by the many books and meticulous notes he kept – always organized, with nothing thrown away "just in case it might be needed someday."

Over his 31 years at JPMorgan Chase, Bob built an extensive career, advancing to become Executive Director of Corporate Real Estate for Critical Systems Engineering, where he led important projects across the country. Beyond his expertise, he was known for his kindness, generosity, and the genuine friendships he formed with so many of his colleagues along the way.

An avid rower, Bob loved being out on the water in Wilmington, rowing with friends and enjoying the peace and discipline the sport brought him. He spent hours erging in the garage to train and even tried out for the Senior Olympics, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to the sport.

Bob had an amazing sense of humor and laughed easily. He especially loved instigating a little mischief and playful jokes with his grandson Sam, bringing joy, laughter, and lifelong memories to those moments together.

He loved his family deeply. He is survived by his wife, Linda Hitchens; his daughter, Jennifer (Hitchens) Greenfield; his grandson, Samuel Greenfield; his two step children Scott Morone and his wife Nicole and Leah (Morone) Victor. His step grandchildren Phoenix, Piper, Noah, Phinley, Karys and Ashton. He also leaves behind his brother, Bill Hitchens, of Watsontown, PA and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Hitchens) DePerro and Hank DePerro of Selinsgrove, PA and their daughters Barbara (DePerro) Schelle and her husband Max Schelle and Amy (DePerro) Oakes and her husband Sean Oakes and their children.

He was known for his kindness, generosity, and tireless work ethic. Whether working on his rental projects, looking forward to the next travel adventure with Linda, or sharing a laugh with family, he gave everything he did his full commitment.

Bob was a great man, and anyone who knew him loved him. His legacy of love, hard work, humor, and quiet strength will remain in the hearts of those who knew him best.
