Roderich (Rod) Johannes Engelmann, 76, of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Setauket and Hampton Bays, Long Island, passed away on February 29th after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. He died at home, surrounded by his wife and children. Rod was a professor of physics at Stony Brook University for over 43 years, much loved by students and colleagues alike. Rod was also deeply involved with Particle Physics research at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Fermilab and CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. While Rod was intensely committed to his work, he was also deeply passionate about life and approached each day with zest. An avid swimmer and lover of food and wine, Rod touched all those who knew him with his grace, ease, humor and open, accepting attitude. Rod is survived by his wife Eva Engelmann, his children John, Andrew, Alicia and Tatiana, his step-son Jeff Wiley and his step-daughter Sylvia Fogel. He is also survived by his brother Arist Engelmann of Germany and sister Marina Baumler of France. Rod was also a proud grandfather to Christopher, Lyndsey, Ben, Sam, Kiera, Sylas, Greta, James, Greg, Emily, Phoebe and Theo. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19th at Lorne & Sons Funeral Home (745 N.E. 6th Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33483). Visitors are welcome starting at 11am and the memorial service will begin at noon. Friends and visitors are welcome to join the family after the service at the home of Eva Engelmann until 5pm.
