Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our father, Roy M. Simon, a lifelong resident and cherished member of the Delray Beach community. Simon, age 93, a practicing architect, passed away suddenly Wednesday, August 14, 2024, surrounded by his family. Roy's strong will, love of life, family, his profession, his tenacity, grace and love of his town, Delray Beach are just a few of many things we cherish and will miss.

Native of Delray Beach, Roy Simon, second oldest son of Alexander and Linda Simon, pioneer family, brother to Ernie (deceased), Charlie, and Sandy, attended Delray Beach Elementary School and Delray Beach High School. He graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, with Bachelor of Science and Bachelor Architecture degrees, and member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force which included duty as Installation Engineer at Prestwick Air Base in Scotland.

Roy M. Simon practiced architectural design in Delray Beach, Florida for 65 years, and as a sole proprietor, Roy M. Simon, A.I.A., Architect, since 1959. His residential and commercial architectural work over the past 65 years can be seen throughout the city. Roy served his hometown community through civic, professional, and community activities. He is proud of his Civic involvement in helping shape the city of Delray Beach with not only his professional designs but his volunteer service on boards. Founding member of the Delray Beach Historical Society, spearheading creation of the Gladiola Fest – now the Delray Affair, along with creation of the Downtown Development Authority, Board of Adjustments, and Mayor's Atlantic Avenue Task Force to name a few. Served as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and Rotary Club where he received the Service Above Self Award.

Roy was a man of very strong faith and a life-long member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, in Delray Beach for over 90 years, where he served most notably chalice bearer, Acolyte, and on the Vestry.

Roy Simon and his wife, Beth (deceased), resided in a home he designed and built himself in Delray Beach together after marrying in 1961. He leaves behind three grown children, Michael (Charlene), Laura (Sven), and Christopher (Claudia), and three granddaughters, Madison, Solenne, and Blair and four grandsons, Derek, Troy, Nolan and Cruz, and great grandchildren, Saylor Reighn, Ryder, Emily and Henry.

Roy loved his family and his town dearly. He and Beth enjoyed dancing in the streets of Delray, or on any dance floor. Roy loved his regular lunchtime visits to the Green Owl or Sandy's, where he would share a laugh amongst old friends.

Roy M. Simon leaves behind a huge legacy of life and love of Delray Beach. He will be truly missed in this Village by the Sea.

"Well done, good and faithful servant". Matthew 25:23.
