Ruth Buell Harris, 100, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2014 after a period of declining health. She was born on July 31, 1913 in Saginaw, Michigan to Edward Andre and Hazel Lee Buell. Ruth was reared in Saginaw and then later moved to Lansing, Michigan. She attended Michigan State University. Ruth met Robert Vroman Harris while working as a telephone operator for the government during World War II. They married on April 28, 1945 and made their home in Michigan. There they raised their daughter, Susan, while Robert managed the family business, Harris Milling Company. In 1968 they retired to Delray Beach, Florida where they enjoyed many years of happiness until Robert's death in 1984. Mrs. Harris was a long time member of The Little Club Golf Course in Delray Beach where she achieved every golfer's goal - a hole in one. She was also a dedicated parishioner, volunteer, and benefactor of St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Boca Raton. Ruth was very proud of the many years she served as a member of the Altar Guild at St. Gregory's. Ruth knew how to enjoy life and she always made those around her feel the same. Whether it was on a larger scale such as accompanying Ruth on one of her many trips throughout the world or being a guest at the wonderful galas she had every five years to celebrate her birthday; or on a smaller scale such as playing a round of golf with her at The Little Club or joining her on Sundays at St. Gregory's followed by breakfast at Denny's with her friends. Ruth always found pleasure in living and passed that feeling onto those fortunate enough to be in her company. In addition to being predeceased by her husband, Ruth was also predeceased by her daughter, Susan Harris Stanton, and her son-in-law, Norman A. Stanton. She is survived by her three grandsons and their wives, Alexander and Shawn Stanton of Brentwood, Tennessee; Robert and Jana Stanton of Winter Park, Florida; and Christopher and Joanne Stanton of Arlington, MA. She also leaves five great-grandchildren: Katherine, Matthew, Emily, Michael, and Patrick. Ruth's life will be celebrated with a service at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please to make a gift in Ruth's memory to St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, 100 NE Mizner Blvd, Boca Raton, FL 33432.
