Ruth Houseman Thompson, 93, died peacefully in her sleep December 25, 2011, at her home in Delray Beach, Florida.
Ruth was a long-time resident of Delray Beach and Boca Raton. Previously, Ruth and her late husband, Thomas M. (Tim) Thompson, lived in Northfield, Wilmette and Glenview, Illinois for more than 30 years. In recent years, Ruth was a Deacon at her beloved First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach.
Ruth was born on May 1, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio to Hazel and Gordon Houseman. She was one of 5 children and is survived by her sister, Mary Goodwin, of Gaithersburg, MD. Other survivors include two children: daughter Judith and son-in-law, George Lowman, of Wilmette, IL, son Thomas M. Thompson Jr. and daughter-in-law, Patricia, of Houston, TX and formerly Ft. Lauderdale, FL. A third child, Ann Thompson, preceded Ruth in death. Ann was married to David Kreisant of Galena, IL. "Nana" had 7 grandchildren: Jonathan Lowman and wife, Anja, of Highland Park, IL; Daniel Lowman and wife, Robin Sindelar, of Evanston, IL; Cameron Miller (US Army); Ruthie Deveau and husband, Todd, of Houston, TX; Elizabeth Smith and husband, Ben, of Dubai, UAE; Andy Thompson of Houston, TX; and Anna Grace Thompson of Houston, TX. She also had five great-grandchildren: Charlie, Cecilia and Colin Lowman of Evanston, IL and Haven and Timmy Deveau of Houston, TX.
The family expresses loving gratitude to Marie Myrtle for her care and devotion to Ruth in recent years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach, 33 Gleason Street, Delray Beach, FL, at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, Ruth requested that donations be made to Main Street Ministries Houston, a Christian-centered organization helping those in need, where her son is Executive Director. It is located at 5100 Travis Street, Houston, TX 77002.
