Former Florida resident S. Edward Withrow, 99, died Nov 22, 2020 at his home in Delray Beach, Florida.
A private service will be held Dec 1, 2020 at the National Cemetery in Lake Worth Florida.
Mr. Withrow was born January 20, 1921, in Charleston, West Virginia to Fletcher and Lottie Withrow. Edward was one of 7 children. He became avid sports enthusiast during his years at Middletown High School in Ohio, playing both baseball and football throughout his high school years. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the US Coast Guard, serving during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific military operations, including combat in the South Pacific.
Following the war, Edward became a police officer in Cincinnati, Ohio for four years. He relocated to Florida where he served as a police officer for over 20 years, retiring as Major at the North Miami Beach Police Department where he met his wife Millie. Edward and Millie were season ticket holders to the Miami Dolphins for many years and enjoyed golfing and spending summers in Raymond, Maine with their family. He was an avid reader and also wrote numerous short stories, ranging from his own life experiences, always reflecting a dry sense of humor.
Edward is survived by Millie, his wife of 43 years, his son Alan, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Donations may be sent to the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center.
