Samuel Thomas Hatcher, 89 years old and a long-time resident of Delray Beach, passed away peacefully Friday, May 19th, 2023. Born in Arlington, VA, August 1, 1933, Tom was predeceased by his wife, Betty June Garner-Hatcher, who passed away October 22, 2021, his grandson Ian Gunnar Mautner, Tom's parents, Samuel & Catalina Hatcher, a sister, Barbara Bone and her husband Rex Bone. Joyce Butts Hatcher (sister-in-law and wife of Walter Hatcher).
Tom is survived by his children, William T. Hatcher, Joel W. Hatcher, Linda G. Hatcher-Mautner, John J. Hatcher, Tom's brother Walter Hatcher, grand-children Tamar Woerner (Philip) Clint Hatcher (Carley) and great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
Tom was a long-time resident of Delray Beach, since 1935 and a graduate of Seacrest High School. After graduating HS, he worked for his parents, in their family's well-known Honey business, Sunny South Apiaries, of Delray Beach. In the early 70's he became a Boca Raton Real Estate Broker, and formed a successful partnership with Broker, Nick Amrhein, Amrhein-Hatcher, Inc. was formed, selling many parcels of local farmland to developers. Tom was well known in Delray, for his adventurous spirit, his tenacity along with his many charitable acts of kindness towards others, especially those who were less fortunate than he. He was a devoutly spiritual man, a member, of First Baptist Church, Delray Beach. He loved surf-cast fishing, raising cattle and loved spending time with his family.
In the early 70's, Tom moved to the family's farm in North Florida, where he enjoyed raising cattle and pigs. He later did mission work, overseas, with son John and wife Betty, specifically in the Ukraine, taking Bibles and preaching God's word to many. He and his devoted and loving wife Betty, mother to their children, returned to Delray/Boynton Beach, in June 2021, to be near family. Sadly, not long after their return home, Betty, of San Angelo, Texas, 87 years old, passed away, at Trustbridge, Hospice-Bethesda, related to a recurrence of Breast Cancer.
Betty was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Iris Garner and brother Gerald, San Angelo, TX.
She is survived by her and Tom's children William, Joel, Linda, John and her brother Michael Garner, of San Angelo, TX, along with several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life gathering, dedicated to both Tom and Betty Hatcher will be held on Friday, May 26th, 2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Lorne and Sons Funeral Home, Delray Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations on behalf of Tom and Betty may be sent to Trustbridge Hospice .
