Obituary

Sarah M. Spengler passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 27th, at her home in the Village of Golf, Florida. She was 92 years old.

Sarah was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 3, 1929, and is survived by her husband of 70 years William F. (Bill) Spengler, and by her four chidren: Bill Jr, Mary Bryant, John (and his wife, Amy) and Carolyn (and her husband, Jim) Stauner. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Sarah met Bill at North High School in Columbus and they attended Ohio State at the same time. Sarah graduated from the Ohio State University in 1953 where she was active in the Delta Gamma sorority and received a bachelor's degree, in Education. Following graduation, she married Bill and her first teaching position was for a third-grade class in Dayton, Ohio. Bill was in the Air Force by then, and he was soon transferred to an air base in southern Germany. Sarah found a way to join him by assuming sole responsibility for teaching the combined 7th and 8th grade classes for the children of two military bases, a big job for such a young teacher. Over the years she resided in a number of locations, spending approximately 30 years in Toledo Ohio where they raised their children and where her husband Bill spent many years working for Owens-Illinois.

She was also especially fond of the years that they resided in England, their second home in Harbor Springs, Michigan and their home in the Village of Golf. Sarah was a wonderful, supportive mother and a loving wife. She had a gift for music and loved music of all kinds, she had a great sense of humor and was active in several charities. She enjoyed a loving relationship with her entire family.

There will be a small, family-only private ceremony for Sarah later this week in Delray Beach.
