Scott J. Phillips, 24, of Delray Beach, passed away on April 27, 2014 after a motorcycle crash two weeks prior. Scott is survived by his parents, Ralph and Ellen Phillips, his younger brother, Jeffrey, grandparents, Ralph and Janice Phillips of Delray Beach, Earl and Michele Kratzer of Las Cruces, NM as well as loving aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by Grandmother, Marilyn Kratzer.
Scott was born at Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach in 1990 and nineteen months later was joined by his baby brother, Jeffrey. He attended Banyan Creek Elementary, Odyssey Middle, and Atlantic Community High School (sometimes). From the age of four he loved playing soccer, and later flag football, while tolerating the slower game of baseball. Through the Sabal Lakes neighborhood and sports, Scott met most of his closest friends. The bond between these "kids" was evident till the day he passed and now, beyond.
Scott started his own neighborhood lawn service business at the age of thirteen, establishing himself as a hard worker and future businessman. After high school Scott tried college briefly before realizing academia was not for him just yet. His cousin, Matt tutored him in the bread delivery business and before long, Scott bought his first route as a private contractor. He diligently built the business to the point where he sold it for a profit. He bought another, larger route, in Delray Beach which he was developing when he died.
Scott loved the beach, surfing, the gym, lunch with his Delray grandparents and hanging out with his friends. He knew and enjoyed so many store owners, employees and patrons on Atlantic Avenue and A1A. "The Ave" and the beach were his sanctuaries.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Shepherd Center, 2020 Peachtree Rd. NW, Atlanta, Ga. 30309-1465. Specify Spinal Cord Research, because one day Scott's close friend Cruise is going to walk again.
Scott's ashes will be scattered in the ocean he so loved at a future date. When you look out into the sea from the Delray Beach coastline, think of him…and he'll be there.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014 3:00PM at the Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, 745 NE 6th Ave. (N. Federal Hwy.) Delray Beach.
