Sylvia A. Mcmurrain's Obituary
Sylvia Lavonne Anderson McMurrain, 79, of Boynton Beach, was born on November 9, 1937 in Miami, and passed away on August 8, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, O.H. (Hugh) and Dollie Anderson, her sister Anita Maynard, niece Linda Lee Lynn, and nephew Robert Stockton.
Sylvia lived in Miami until her family moved to Delray Beach when she was 12 years old. She was a graduate of Seacrest High class of 1955, and attended the University of Florida before returning to Delray Beach. She lived her life beautifully dedicated to her children and grandchildren. Her guiding hands, head, and heart, helped mold her sons, Scott McMurrain and Brett McMurrain, into the men they are today, and her spirit will continue to guide them as they raise their own children. She was "Gigi" to her beloved grandchildren, Brenton McMurrain, Noah McMurrain, Tyler McMurrain, and Sydney McMurrain.
Sylvia leaves behind her beloved daughter-in-law, Tricia McMurrain, her brother and sister in law, Hugh and Virginia Anderson, nieces Carol Swann and Mary Ann Stockton, nephew Bill Stockton, and many great-nieces and -nephews.
While her family and friends are saddened, everyone is thankful she will never suffer again. All who knew her will remember her kindness and generosity. Sylvia always remembered birthdays, and always took the time to pick out that special gift for each person instead of just sending a gift card. She especially treasured her relationship with a wonderful family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws!
Sylvia had a strong faith in God and the Trinity, and loved to read and learn. Her hobbies included collecting sea shells, playing tennis, and raising plants and orchids. But she got most of her pleasure from living things - people, plants, and animals (especially her cats).
Friends will gather on Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM with an 11:00AM memorial service at LORNE & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 745 N.E. 6th Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33483.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sandoway Discovery Center 142 S. Ocean Blvd. Delray Beach, FL 33483.
