Obituary

Thomas (Tom)’s parents were Thomas Edmond Pemberton (b. 8/2/1900) and Gladys (Schaaf) Pemberton (b.9/18/1905) both from Toledo Ohio relocating to Delray Beach (Gulfstream) Florida.

Tom was born at Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. He attended public grade school and then graduated from Ottawa Hills High School 1956. He then attended and graduated from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) being awarded his Bachelors of Science Degree in Business in January of 1961. He was an active member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity during his studies at BGSU. Upon graduation, Tom then proudly enlisted in the US Navy Reserves and served most of his time in Key West aboard the USS John R Perry, a destroyer escort during the Cuban Missile Crisis 1962. Upon completion of his service, he returned to Toledo and very soon after asked his first true love from college to take his hand in marriage.

His true love is Cynthia Ann Walling (Cindy), another BGSU graduate (January 1961). They stood before the Lord and took their vows in marriage on April 11, 1964. Tom was a devoted husband and father. Together they were blessed with 3 daughters, all whom still live nearby; Anne Pemberton (b. 1967) (Bernet-Rudsbraten) married to Finn Rudsbraten, Kathryn Pemberton (b. 1971), and Jeanne Pemberton (b. 1974) (Tolle), married to Twig Tolle.

Anne (Bernet-Rudsbraten) gave them twin granddaughters, Erin Bernet (McKean) and Susannah Bernet. Erin and Corey McKean gave them two great grandsons Owen and Milo. Susannah and Nicholas Skinner gave them their great granddaughter Marley Everett.

Tom was a successful executive at Merrill Lynch in Delray Beach until his retirement after 35 years.

After retirement, Tom indulged his passion for charity work. Some of his favorites were Cross Ministry (Food Bank), Gleaning Produce, Filling Food Pantry, Listening to Children at Plumosa Elementary School.

Tom and Cindy were proud members of First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach and loved to attend Church. He was also very active and supportive helping Cindy with Holly House events.

In addition to devoting a great deal of time to his charity passions, Tom was a lifelong avid fisherman. Having spent many years as a golfer and tennis player, pickleball became part of the natural progression later in life. He also loved to travel, cruises (RCCL and Celebrity), and visiting Beech Mountain, NC where he and Cindy and the family were members of the Beech Mountain Club and owned a home there. Tom was a staple at family gatherings and loved spending time with his friends.

Tom had a very dry sense of humor and was well known for that. When his girls were growing up, he was “Mr. P” to their friends.

But most of all HE LOVED HIS WIFE CINDY!!!

We encourage you to dress with color as we are celebrating Tom’s Life.
