Walter Helmut Baum also known as Rocket Wildcard, Perry, Waldi, Wally, Helmut and Papa, died on June 17, 2017 from a sudden stroke at the age of 55. He was born in Graz, Austria. Walter grew up in Washington D.C. and attended the German School. He graduated from FIU, majoring in the hospitality industry.
Walter worked as on Ocean Rescue Lifeguard/EMT for Delray Beach for nearly 20 years. He had a passion for surfing and the ocean. Walter was a champion lifeguard and swimmer.
Walter was such a unique character. It was not unusual to see him wear a soccer ball hat with a Dolphins jersey (or Redskins, depending on the season) with socks pulled up to his knees. He never went anywhere without a "to go" container. Walter was the life of the party, everyone loved his enthusiasm and energy.
Walter married "Julie Jill" in 2004 and they had a baby girl, Juliet Ashton. Juliet was the light of his life. He spent every minute possible with her.
Walter is survived by his wife, Jill, daughter, Juliet, fairy godmother, Marguerite Rosner, and his precious dog, Brandy. He will be missed by his many friends both here and in Austria.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 1:00PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Delray Beach, 33 Gleason Street Delray Beach, FL 33483.
Walter would love contributions made in his name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at http://www2.jdrf.org/goto/sugarmouse
