Walter G.
Hartung
February 3, 1938 – December 29, 2022
Walter G. Hartung affectionately known as "Wally" was born on February 3 rd , 1938, in Mars, Pennsylvania to Harry and Margaret Hartung. On Thursday, December 29, 2022, God called him home. His work here was done, and he indeed made the world a much better place. He will be missed by all who met him, knew him, and loved him. Walter is survived by his sons, Brian and wife, Kim, Kermit and wife, Shannon, his sister Charlotte, and his nephew Jason, and all of his extended family and friends that will forever love him.
Wally had many titles throughout his life: son, brother, employee, neighbor, dog watcher, dog whisperer, Mr. Fix-it, volunteer, and friend. Of all the titles that Wally held, the one he loved the most was that of "dad". Walter's proudest accomplishment was being the father to Brian and Kermit. Wally loved being a "dad". The pride and admiration that Walter had for his boys was palpable to all who knew him.
Walter was a friend to all. He was the first one to jump in and help, no matter the task. Walter prided himself on leading a servant driven life. He devoted his life and time to helping others. Whether it was family, friends, neighbors or total strangers, Wally was the first one to volunteer. Whether he was delivering meals to seniors, participating in missionary flights, or helping to provide wheelchairs to disabled children, Wally would be there with a helping hand and a smile.
As with most things in Walter's life, Walter was incredibly devoted and committed to his work. He believed in doing your best, working hard, and giving it your all. Wally worked for over 40 years for Winn Dixie, as a meat and store manager. Wally also started his own lawn business which he had for over 20 years. He also enjoyed wood working and tinkering.
Wally was a presence like no other, a gentle giant with a heart of gold. He worked every day in his life to make life a little easier for someone else. It was just who he was.
