Walter "Rocky"
Thomas Robison
November 3, 1945 – December 12, 2022
Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Walter (Rocky) Robison, passed away at the age of 77 on December 12, 2022. Rocky was born November 3, 1945 in Paris, Texas the son of Thomas and Billye Robison. He had one older sister, Minzear Robison. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 12 years, Maryann as well as his children: Chris and Leah Robison, Heather and John Robert Hackett, Amy Robison and 5 grandchildren: Lucas Robison, Kyle Robison, Hannah Hackett, Alice Hackett and June Hackett as well as so many other friends and family nearby including his ex-wife Janet Robison.
Rocky married Janet Meyer in 1972 and they had 3 children that he cared for immensely - Chris, Heather and Amy. They started their married life together in Tulsa, OK, eventually migrating to Rocky's home state of Texas (he never failed to remind others how proud he was to be a Texan!) - in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Eventually, the family moved out to North Carolina, where the kids all graduated high school and college. This was Rocky's biggest source of pride - supporting and encouraging his kids to pursue their passions and to turn into good people. The life lessons that Rocky taught his kids are being passed down to his grandchildren today. Rocky always taught his kids to do whatever they did with heart and to the best of their ability every single day.
Rocky worked very hard throughout his career, finding great success in mechanical engineering and contributing to many high-profile construction projects including Epcot Center at Disney World. Rocky eventually reaped the rewards of that hard work in retirement.
In retirement, Rocky moved to Boynton Beach, Florida so he could enjoy his favorite sport of golf year-round. Additionally, boating became a passion for Rocky and one of his favorite activities was taking his now grown family and their friends/loved ones out on the boat for fun tours up and down the intracoastal waterway, snorkeling and even scuba diving. Rocky was an avid athlete growing up participating in baseball, basketball, boxing and even bronco riding! He was bestowed the name "Rocky" after being compared to boxing legend Rocky Marciano.
His competitive spirit never faded as he grew older and he competed in many competitions at his golf club, both individually and on teams with his wife Maryann even winning a couple along the way including his last big tourney: the annual Grandfathers Championship Tournament in 2021 against a field of 35 and even picked up a skins game win to boot! He never lost his love for the links.
Rocky's outgoing personality allowed him to continue to add to the many meaningful friendships he built throughout the years across Texas and North Carolina. He was able to build many close friendships in his Florida retirement neighborhood as well and he treasured the connections he made with his neighbors. He really enjoyed introducing his kids to his new friends in retirement.
One of the most important aspects of being a father is to always be present and there for your children. Rocky always did just that, whether that was helping his kids pick the grass out of their cleats after practice or dispensing life advice when someone was contemplating a difficult career choice. For that, his children will be eternally grateful. Rocky's wicked sense of humor, his fun-loving persona and his heart will remain with us. His family is left with a deep sense of gratitude for his life and the time they had together. Rocky truly won the game of life.
A celebration of Rocky's life took place on December 14th with his many friends in the community and his family attending. The family requests that no flowers be sent, and that you would please send memorial contributions to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital Click Here to Donate Online
