Wanda Ricker
Lynch
March 9, 1931 – September 13, 2021
Wanda Belle Pratt was born in Tonasket, Washington, a small town near the Canadian border in apple growing country. Her parents were Fred John Pratt and Lois Gavin Pratt, and she was the second of four children, with older sister Betty, younger brother Fred, and sister Darlene the youngest. She lived with her family for a few years in Wyoming and Utah but Tonasket was home during most of her school years. Wanda was an excellent student and graduated from Tonasket High School in 1948. During her teen years she worked in the apple harvest and at a local clothing store, and she was active in church and school activities, including being a drum majorette and basketball player.
After graduating High School Wanda entered Washington State College in 1950 and completed a program in office management. She then went to work for IBM in Spokane where she was promoted to office manager. In her time with IBM she moved from Spokane to Portland, Oregon, and then to Seattle.
It was in Seattle where she met Dr. Walter Ricker Jr., a pathologist. They were married in her hometown of Tonasket in 1960, and Wanda retired from IBM. Walt and Wanda had two children, Tracy and Walter the 3rd, while living in Zenith, Washington, south of Seattle. Walt and Wanda began an exciting life. They loved to ski and eventually built a vacation home in Sun Valley, Idaho. Walt was a private pilot and they traveled extensively. They always loved entertaining their many, varied friends, and Walt's three older children, Anne, Judy and Scott often joined them. Wanda and Walt also built a house in Gulfstream, Florida in 1974 as an eventual retirement home, but Walt passed away in 1976. After Walt's death, Wanda decided to move to the sunny Florida home with her two young children, Tracy and Walter, and sold the home near Seattle.
Wanda eventually reconnected with an old friend from her time at IBM, Bill Lynch, and they married in 1981 adding Bill's three grown children, Susan, Sandy and Bob, to her family. They enjoyed golf, travel, and family, as well as Bill's ongoing involvement with a local jazz band, playing the bass. Socially, Wanda and Bill were very active, enjoying great friendships through their memberships in the County Club of Florida and the Ocean Club. For many years they enjoyed the seasonal rhythm of spending summers in Sun Valley and winters in Delray Beach. After Bill passed away in 2010 Wanda maintained her home in Florida.
Wanda always had a mindset of service to others. Over the years she devoted a great deal of time and energy serving as a board member or fundraising for organizations including the Cornish School of the Arts in Seattle, the American Cancer Society, and in the Delray Beach area the Delray Beach Playhouse, Old School Square, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and Bethesda Hospital. Wanda was a loving, generous, funny and kind person who will be missed by all who knew her. Friends and family will always remember her wonderful smile and laugh. She was always beautifully dressed and was a fantastic cook! Wanda lived a wonderful, meaningful life.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Betty and brother Fred, and by her husbands Walt and Bill. She is survived by her two children, Tracy and Walter (Sandi), her six step-children, 6 grandchildren (Jim, Charlie, Van, Ben, Nora and Jonathan), great-granddaughter Olivia, her sister Darlene and many nieces and nephews. Wanda's family will hold a celebration of her life in her beloved Sun Valley, Idaho in summer of 2022.
