Obituary

Willard Bennington Greene passed into the hands of the Lord on December 31st, 2015, at the age of 90. He was born in Bazaar, Kansas on May 18, 1925 to the late Milton Willard Greene and Zula Bennington Greene (longtime Kansas columnist, "Peggy of the Flint Hills"). Willard spent a year at Washburn University and then graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy, during World War II with the Seabees and in the Korean War, aboard the U.S.S. Boxer. Willard was a systems analyst for IBM for 31 years where he won many awards for various inventions. During that time, IBM sponsored him as a guest professor for one year in teaching computer classes at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. He also worked for the Florida Baptist Children's Home and participated in various international mission trips. Willard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn (James) Greene, by his sister Dorothy (Greene) Hanger (and her husband Richard) of Topeka Kansas, by his son James Greene of Delray Beach and his daughter Joyce (Greene) Stevens of San Antonio, Texas. Willard is survived by three grandchildren – April Zimmermann and Matt Stevens of San Antonio, Texas (and his wife Amber) and Adrianne (Greene) Hemsher of Boynton Beach (and her husband Kevin and mother Barbara Cole). Willard had two great grandchildren – Alexa Zimmermann of San Antonio, Texas and Luke Hemsher of Boynton Beach. Willard's Christian faith was of paramount importance to him, and he lived it daily. A private military burial with honors will take place at the South Florida National Cemetery, and then a memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Boca Raton, 2350 N.W. 51st Street, on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 7:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Boca Raton or to the Florida Baptist Children's Home in Lakeland, FL .
