Obituary

William L. Borough, a longtime resident of Deerfield Beach and most recently of Boca Raton, FL, passed away at the age of 90 in his home surrounded by the love of his wife on January 27th 2016. William "Bill" Borough was born on August 14th 1925 in South Bend, IN and spent his summers at Diamond Lake, Cassopolis, Michigan. He attended Central High School in South Bend. Bill enlisted in the United States Navy during WWll and served his country as an Electricians Mate 3rd Class on the minesweeper USS PGM 31. After the war, he attended Kalamazoo College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Physics and Art. Bill married Virginia O'Boyle on June 16th 1951 and was married for 65 wonderful years. His entire career was with Bendix Corporation as a Senior Chemist and in 1969 he was transferred to the Bendix Launch Support Division at NASA Space Center, Merritt Island, FL. He worked for the Apollo Mission as a Corrosion Engineer but moved back to South Bend as the Apollo program came to an end. Bill was an avid sailor and founded Borough Sailboat Sales in South Bend, IN as a side business. He was the first to bring Hobie Cats and Windsurfers to Diamond Lake and the surrounding areas. In 1978 he retired from Bendix and moved with his family to Deerfield Beach, FL where he worked as an artist participating in major Art Festivals from 1982-1998. He began as a marine painter and then focused on Key West homes as his subject matter. His works can be seen decorating Disney's Old Key West Resort in Orlando, Florida and are enjoyed by those who collected his work. Bill had the distinction of being accepted into the Florida Watercolor Society and the International Society of Marine Painters. He and his wife raced sailboats with the Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club and enjoyed cruising with their friends and family. Later in life, Bill was involved in the Deerfield Beach Computer Club and taught introduction computer classes at the Lighthouse Point Library. He was a lifetime member at the Diamond Lake Yacht Club, Cassopolis MI; founding member of the Palm Beach Watercolor Society; a member and webmaster of the Deerfield Beach Computer Club; and a volunteer at the Lighthouse Point Library. Bill was a loving supportive father who wanted the best for his children Mary, Alice, Carol and Helen Borough who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Lester Borough. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Borough whom he loved dearly, his brother, Dr. Paul Borough of Boulder CO, his daughters Mary Borough, Carol Perez, Alice Ahrens and Son-in-Law Art Ahrens, grandchildren Kent Squiers, Sarah Ahrens, Duke Ahrens, Francisco Perez and Melisa Perez, great grandchild Dylan Mick, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a kind and gentle man who touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him. Bill's life will be honored by the family in a private celebration at a later date.
