William "Bud" Merrill III, 80, of Delray Beach, passed away quietly with his family by his side on Sunday January 25, 2015. He was born in Canton Ohio and moved to the Delray Beach area 1945. Bud graduated from Seacrest High School 1952. He served as an Officer in the United States Army 2nd Armored Div. in the Korean War. Bud had served on the Delray Beach Fire Department 1950, the Palm Beach County Sheriffs and the Delray Beach Police Dept. 1958-1967. He was an owner in Kenmar Flowers & worked in the farming business over 47 Years. Bud started Auto Racing MGs, Turners & Alfa Romeo's in 1953 at Daytona, WPB, Sebring, Sebastian Inlet, Amelia Earhart Track Miami, W. Hollywood Speedway, Road Atlanta, VIR, Roebling Road, Watkins Glen and many more tracks over the years. He was an active member of the Delray Beach Jaycee's & American Legion. Bud helped with the Development of the Boynton Beach Little League Field and was a great Baseball Coach with his 2 sons & daughter. He also worked with many organizations such as SCCA, VDCA, BMW CCA,PBOC, Skip Barber, HSR, and SVRA. Bud served as the Chief Steward & Deputy Executive Officer of the S.E. Region and many other clubs. He had served in almost every position in the Florida Region, from Regional Executive to his current post as Parliamentarian.
He is survived by his sons, Michael (Jane)Merrill and Mark Merrill, daughter, Lori (Roger)Calvin. Bud was predeceased by his wife, Patricia in 2000 and is survived by her children, Bob (Paula), Harry (Cathy), Brad (Kathy) and Gary (Wanda) Pouncey and many grandchildren & great grandchildren.
Friends will gather on Thursday February 5, 2015 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM with a 7:00PM memorial service at Lorne & Sons Funeral Home, 745 NE 6th Ave. (N. Federal Hwy) Delray Beach. Interment will be held at the South Florida National Cemetery 6501 S. State Road 7 Lake Worth, FL Friday February 6, 2015 11:00AM Lane #5.
